# What is Networking ?

The Networking is the process in which we are connected two or more than two devices are held together through the Internet, with the help of the mobile phone, computer or a laptop.

Computer Networks

A network is a collection of interlinked computers means of a communication system.

The network facilitate resources sharing, increased reliability, reduced costs, and increased and fast communication.

On the basis of networks can be classified into :

1. LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)

2. MAN (METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK)

3. WAN (WIDE AREA NETWORK)

# LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)

The small computer networks that are confined to a localised area. This is basically used in house, building, school or office purpose only.

for example:- Ethernet, WiFi.

# MAN (METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK)

This is basically used in to connecting multiple-building, or in a city .

for example:- Cable TV Network.

# WAN (WIDE AREA NETWORK)

A WAN is a group of computers that are speprated by large distance and tied together. This is basically used in to connect multiple-city or a country to another country.

for example:- Internet.

Components of Network

• A Client computer (or a client) is a computer or other device on the other device on the network that requests and utilizes network resources.

• A Server is a computer on network, dedicated to processing client requests.

• In a peer-to-peer network, all computerd are equal; each can double up as a client as well as a non-dedicated server.

• A client/server network has computer(s) designated as server(s) and these are dedicated servers. Clients do own job and the servers serve the requests of the clients.

Devices

# Hub

A Hub is a hardware device used to connect several computers together. Hubs can be either active hubs or passive hubs.

# Switch

A Switch is a device that is used to segment networks into different sub-networks called subnets or LAN segment.

# Bridge

A Bridge is a device that links two networks together .

# Router

A Router is a device that works like a bridge but can handle different protocols.

# Gateway

A Gateway is a device that connects disimilar networks.
